Free QR Code Generator for Authors & Publishers

QR codes are a powerful tool for authors, publishers, and self-publishers who want to bridge the gap between their physical books and their online presence. Place a QR code on the back cover of your book to link directly to your Amazon listing, author website, book trailer on YouTube, or a special landing page with bonus content. Readers simply scan the code with their phone camera and are taken straight to the destination — no typing required.

This free QR code generator runs entirely in your browser. Nothing is uploaded to a server, no account is needed, and the codes you create are yours to use without limits or watermarks. You can customize colors to match your book cover design, add your author logo or publisher brand mark, and export in both raster (PNG) and vector (SVG) formats for maximum flexibility in print and digital layouts.

For KDP publishers, QR codes are especially useful on the back cover, inside the back matter (linking to your other books), on bookmarks and promotional materials, and in author newsletters. With the right error correction level, your QR code will scan reliably even when printed small or partially obscured by a logo.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a QR code?
A QR (Quick Response) code is a two-dimensional barcode that can store text, URLs, contact information, and more. It can be scanned by any modern smartphone camera, instantly opening a link or displaying the encoded content. QR codes were invented in 1994 and are now used worldwide for payments, marketing, product packaging, and publishing.
Are QR codes free to use?
Yes. QR codes are an open standard and are completely free to generate and use. There are no licensing fees, no royalties, and no restrictions. The QR codes you create with this tool are yours to use commercially, in print, or online — forever, with no expiration.
What size should my QR code be?
For reliable scanning, a QR code should be at least 2 cm (0.8 inches) on each side when printed. For book covers, 2.5–3 cm works well. If you plan to use it on a poster or billboard, scale up proportionally. The SVG export from this tool is vector-based and can be scaled to any size without losing quality.
Can I add my logo to the QR code?
Yes. Upload any image and it will be placed at the center of the QR code with a white padding area. For best results, use error correction level Q (25%) or H (30%), which allows up to a quarter or a third of the code to be obscured while remaining scannable. Keep the logo size at or below 20% for optimal reliability.
What error correction level should I use?
Error correction determines how much of the QR code can be damaged or covered and still scan. Level L (7%) is fine for digital-only use. Level M (15%) is the default and works well for most print applications. Use Q (25%) or H (30%) if you plan to add a logo overlay or if the code may be partially obscured by printing conditions.
