How to Plan a Book Series for Amazon KDP

Publishing a book series on Amazon KDP is one of the most effective strategies for self-published authors. Series readers tend to be loyal, and each new book in the series boosts sales for every other book. But managing a multi-book project requires planning: you need to track titles, ISBNs, ASINs, publication dates, and the status of each manuscript as it moves through your pipeline.

The Series Planner tool helps you organize all of this in one place. Define your series information once, then add each book with its metadata. As you progress from idea to published, update the status and watch your progress bar fill up. When you're ready, export your plan as a JSON file for safekeeping or generate a PDF to share with your editor or cover designer.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is my data stored on your servers?
No. All data is stored in your browser's localStorage. Nothing is uploaded or transmitted. If you clear your browser data, your series plan will be lost unless you've exported it as a JSON file.
Can I plan multiple series?
The tool saves one series at a time in localStorage. To manage multiple series, export each one as a JSON file and import whichever you want to work on. Each JSON file contains the complete series data.
What is the difference between ISBN and ASIN?
An ISBN (International Standard Book Number) is a universal identifier for books used worldwide. An ASIN (Amazon Standard Identification Number) is Amazon's unique product identifier. KDP assigns an ASIN automatically when you publish. You can optionally provide your own ISBN or use Amazon's free one.
How do I reorder books in my series?
Use the up and down arrow buttons on each book card to change its position in the series. The order numbers update automatically.
Can I export my plan as a PDF?
Yes. Click the "Export PDF" button to generate a PDF summary of your entire series, including all book details and status. The PDF is generated entirely in your browser using pdf-lib.
